I am attracted to natural forms which seem other-wordly,
and the chestnut pod is a perfect example. The basic form
is a spiked outer casing protecting an empty shell of fruit
spent long ago. Through the contrast of the interior
and exterior layers, observations about the world around us

almost like a bush. Its natural exterior of leafless twigs is stark and
barren, which contrasts to the green and lush Astroturf underbelly.
Turf questions whether this type of artificial beautification comes
at the expense of our natural environment.
