Rigoletto
Rigoletto draws inspiration from the Verdi opera. It is the story
of a court jester whose jealousy and possessiveness of his only daughter
leads to her death. The piece can be perceived alternately as a jester's
hat or the lower half of a sunken female. Rigoletto consists of
grapevines woven about a wooden skeleton of branches attached with pegs.
My sculpture focuses on the delicate balance between nature and human
society and the dynamics of this relationship. The duality of female torso
and jester hat in Rigoletto is a reminder of our covenant with mother
nature and the folly of abuse of the planet.
